April 2014 Block of the Month

April BOM - make as many as you like, and bring to the May meeting.  There will be a drawing with one chance per block; winner takes all!

Finished block should measure 11" square (including seam allowance), but if yours is a little too big or small, no problem.

DO NOT TRIM YOUR FINISHED BLOCK!

Cutting Directions:

Fabric A: (white or ivory, can be solid fabric or a "low volume" print)
Cut (4) 3 3/4" x 5" rectangles

Fabric B: (modern print)
Cut (1) 5" square (this will be the center square)
(4) 3 3/4" squares
(8) 2 1/4" squares, draw diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of
                     each

    Piecing Directions:
  1. Lay 2 small squares on adjacent corners of each light rectangle (right sides together) and sew on drawn lines.  Trim excess from corners, leaving 1/4" seam allowance.  Press corners open.

      2. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, construct the block as shown.  Press seams in the
           direction of the arrows.

DO NOT TRIM YOUR FINISHED BLOCK!

(The winner can trim them all to a consistent size.)
