Charity/Outreach

Goals:

  • Coordinate charity and outreach sewing/quilting efforts close to the hearts and interests of our membership.
  • 2016- Offer targeted charity sewing challenges and opportunities with clearly communicated goals in mind.
  • Manage the Revolving Charity Table which provides opportunities for all members to participate in various stages of quilt construction.
  • Donate quilts to Quilts for Kids which will distribute quilts locally to Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. **Drop off location is at Sew Special on 1604.
  • Support a variety of charitable organizations that are actively seeking quilted items by providing quilts for their fund raisers/projects/programs.
  • Promote sewing and quilting skill development using a variety of techniques.
  • Provide opportunities for group interaction as well as individual participation.

Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study

About: The Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) was formed in 1991 as a cooperative agreement between the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the University of California, San Diego. The ADCS is a major initiative for Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical studies in the Federal government, addressing treatments for both cognitive and behavioral symptoms. This is part of the NIA Division of Neuroscience's effort to facilitate the discovery, development and testing of new drugs for the treatment of AD and also is part of the Alzheimer's Disease Prevention Initiative.

Threads of Love

About: Threads of Love, through the effort and support of many participants in chapters across the country, provides clothing, blankets, and other handmade articles for tiny, premature and sick infants. Includes a crocheted or knitted cap, day gown, blanket, lovie doll, and a prayer for healing.

About: American Patchwork & Quilting is challenging quilters, sewers and crafters to help us reach our goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities.  Many charities can benefit from the donation of a pillowcase and the challenge gives you the opportunity to donate and make a difference in your community.

Layers of Hope: Quilting 911

Comfort for Critters

About: The 4th Sunday of every month crafters, sewers, knitters, crocheters and friends are invited to help us make dozens of blankets in a day for our foster and shelter pets. Even if you can't make a blanket, you can help cut material. Bring a dish or snack to share, we'll crank up the tunes, get to know some new people and have fun while creating some cozy comfort for the pets in our care. 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. -from their FB page

Soma Intimates 

About: One in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Survivors often arrive at shelters with little more than the clothes on their back and rely on donated items to get back on their feet. Bras are the most needed, yet least donated clothing item for women.
In July 2010, Soma set out on a mission to make a difference in the lives of women in need by collecting new or gently worn bras. In partnership with the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), the bras we collect are distributed to women in need in your local communities. - from the Soma website.
