October 2017 Show & Tell

Another fantastic Show'n Tell from the talented group of quilters at San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild!

October 2017

The above pictures were shown & created by Stacy.

Great Urbanology Quilt, Michele!

Beautiful quilt and quilt back, Tony.

Jen finally quilted this melting UFO quilt.

And congratulations to Sara R (left)! Allison, (right) on behalf of the guild, presented Sara this baby quilt. Thank you, Stacy for organizing the baby quilt stitching! The meeting happened a couple days past Sara's due date, and a couple more past that, her little one was welcomed into the world.

October 2017 Halloween Mini Swap

Our SAMQG group is member driven. If we have a member who wants to host something or coordinate something we do it. It is pretty great. This philosophy helps shape the guild to be an organization you'd like to participate in. We don't generally have any "I wish we could do X with our guild." Nah, just decide to do it and do it!

Kassandra hosted and organized the Halloween Mini Swap with projects due & swapped at the October meeting. Here's a peek at the happy swappers.

SAMQG August Meeting Show'n Tell

With school starting soon, we are back on track meeting in our regular location with fun quilty programs. Here's a peek at August's Show'n Tell.

At the July meeting, Leslie opened her dye studio to let us play with a few thickened dyes in the colors determined by the national MQG chapter for the upcoming charity quilt challenge. We made some interesting pieces!

Member show'n tell quilts do not disappoint!

This first quilt is Mary Ruth's Fancy Forest.

Stacy used the softest green fabric to feature this Cotton and Steel layer cake in a HUGE quilt.

You'll recognize this next quilt from the cover of a magazine. It was made and designed by Joanna, our guild president.

Susie brought her copy of the magazine for an autograph.

The scrap quilt below is by Jen. She designed the pattern and had to buy extra fabric for the cream background.

Susie made this quilt featuring the number 5. It is huge and possibly still growing.

These beautiful pineapples are a gift and made with the quick curve ruler.

Show'n Tell is always a treat at the San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild. Please be sure to stop by our meeting at the Jewish Community Center on the first Thursday in September to see a whole new batch of quilts.

Mini Quilt Show and Auction

The San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild hosted its first annual Mini Quilt Show and Auction. Members were asked to make a 16" x 16" quilt to donate to the event. Read more about the guidelines here.

41 quilts were on display in the classroom at Sew Special Quilt Shop SA from May 1st to May 11th.

((If the video below doesn't load, watch the Mini Quilt Show here.))

The bidding opened and we were off to a great start. We hosted the event invitation on Facebook and you can see more images and comments there.

Thank you to the membership who pulled together to create an incredibly fun event.
Thanks to the shop for hosting us.
Thanks to the community who bid and supported us.

Congratulations to our top prize winners:

The winner of the Viewer's Choice Award was Kelli for her piece, Mr. Snail.

The quilt that raised the most funds was Sarah R's paper pieced triangles.

We cannot wait to do it again next year!
